Qatar is located in West Asia near the Persian Gulf. It is a Muslim country with a small land area and a population of only 2.78 million. The country is very wealthy and is a constitutional monarchy emirate.

On October 2, 2021, Qatar held its first parliamentary elections in the country’s history. Qatar's parliament consists of 45 members, two-thirds (30 seats) of whom are elected by ballot and the remaining one-third (15 seats) appointed by the emir. A total of 284 candidates are running, including 29 women. Voter turnout was 63.5%.
